Dima EL SAYED has an extensive experience in managing and coordinating Humanitarian Programmes particularly through local partners.
She has chosen since joining the sector to commit to developing national capacities working through INGOs but for local partners. Her approach to capacity development is based on deconstructing mainstreamed terminologies to allow for a context adapted response that speaks the language of people in need.
Dima has worked with countless Civil Society organizations through her position in INGOs like Oxfam, NRC and DRC and directly through collaborations with UNWomen, IOM, Sphere…etc. And has come up with various tools to help build organizations and improve the quality of their programming. Dima has built capacity building teams for Oxfam in both the Syrian response and in Iraq.
With regards to Sphere. She has organized and participated in a Sphere ToT in 2014 and has since trained more than 100 local organizations in the MENA region on Sphere. she has piloted the first Sphere training package in Arabic and has adapted Sphere content to various forms of capacity building in order to insure material is not merely a learning tool but a way to insure an effective change in organizational behaviour.
As a key tool in the humanitarian sector, Dima continues to mainstream the Sphere principles in all of her training sessions both online and in person and they are frequently referred to in her short videos aimed at supporting new humanitarians following the Covid crisis.
Dima is currently based in Lebanon.
