Hakan has extensive experience providing training in the disaster, emergency, and humanitarian fields. Since 2001, Hakan has worked for the Izmir Province Disaster and Emergency Directorate as a Search and Rescue Trainer, Humanitarian and Psychosocial Support Trainer, Disaster Awareness Trainer, and Disaster Volunteer Trainer. Since 2021, Hakan has included Sphere training in his training portfolio; he joined the DPPI-Sphere ToT in November-December 2021. Hakan has a comprehensive understanding of Sphere and the Sphere Handbook, as well as extensive familiarity with the latest Sphere training materials. He has conducted numerous Sphere trainings in accordance with the 2018 Sphere Handbook and Training Package.
Hakan has also worked as a disaster and emergency worker on the front lines, so he has extensive experience implementing Sphere in the field and/or a solid understanding of implementation issues and dilemmas from their training work. Hakan served as Humanitarian Aid Provider for the Turkey Disaster and Management Presidency’s humanitarian activities in Syria’s Elbab, Kabbasin, and Bzaa regions in 2020 and 2021, focusing on implementing the Sphere WASH and Food sectors.
Hakan is a graduate of Anadolu University, Department of Emergency and Disaster Management (2020), Department of Public Administration (2007). He has a Community Disaster Volunteer Trainer Certificate (2006) from Boğaziçi University.
