SUMMARY:Meeting the challenge: Are the HSP global standards fit for purpose? Session 1
DESCRIPTION:The Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks (HNPW) is the annual event of the Learning Edge Programme and the largest event of its kind. Every year\, the HNPW brings together more than 2000 experts in crisis preparedness and response from over 350 organizations and countries. \nThe Humanitarian Standards Partnership (HSP) is a coalition of standard-setting initiatives coordinated by Sphere. HSP members all share a similar approach. They see humanitarian standards as an expression of human rights developed via inclusive consultation processes with a wide range of practitioners\, and which create abroad consensus on best practices. The HSP aims to harmonise different sets of humanitarian standards and promote their implementation. \nThis double session\, organised in the framework of the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks\, will explore the role of humanitarian standards and present the work and added value of the HSP. Depending on the day\, we will provide French and Arabic or Spanish simultaneous interpretation and English live captions. \n  \n\n\nSession 1: Tuesday 27 April 2021\, 09:00-10:00 Geneva time\n\n\nDelivered in English; we will provide French and Arabic simultaneous interpretation and English live captions\n\n\nSession 2: Thursday 29 April 2021\, 16:00-17:00 Geneva time\n\n\nDelivered in English; we will provide Spanish simultaneous interpretation and English live captions \n  \n\nREGISTER NOW\nBy registering at the link above\, you will be able to attend either of the two sessions. \n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Localisation is imperative for Accountability to Affected People
DESCRIPTION:Accountability to people affected by crises has never been more important. The Covid-19 pandemic – and now the roll-out of the vaccine – has highlighted the importance of meaningful\, two-way community engagement in the communication of risks\, prevention\, services and treatment. Following a year when international travel has been highly restricted\, and when major cuts to aid budgets have combined with dramatically increased humanitarian need\, members of the international aid organisations are expanding partnerships and revisiting their role in support of responses that have been largely led at local level. What have we learned?   \nIn this session we will show the added value of national and local organisations regarding accountability to affected people. We will discuss good partnership practices in the last few months to share learning from the experience and encourage scaling up. We will also analyse remaining challenges for aid actors to be fully accountable to people affected by crises. \nJoin us and representatives from national organisations to discuss: \n\nhow exemplary partnerships and application of universal standards have increased accountability to people and communities affected by crisis\nwhat actions we can take to remove the barriers for aid that is fully accountable to people we serve.\n\n  \n\nREGISTER ON THE HNPW WEBSITE \n(select Event Programme from the menu then search for localisation) \n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Risk Management and Funding Partnerships\, webinar\, 28 Apr 2021
DESCRIPTION:Read more and register at https://phap.org/28apr2021 \nRisk management practices are playing an increasingly important role in partner selection and engagement when NGOs receive funding from UN agencies or government donors. Join ICVA and PHAP for a webinar on 28 April\, part of the Learning Series on Risk Management in Practice\, where we will examine the role of risk management in good funding partnerships as NGOs engage with external funders. \nFor funders of humanitarian programming of NGOs\, risk management is playing an increasing role in both the decision to offer funding and the terms and conditions of partnership once a grant is secured. Funding from UN agencies for NGO partners now includes an assessment of risk management practices in partner selection. Most also use a risk rating system with partners to determine funding limits and levels of required oversight. \nDonor governments currently have a wider range of practice\, some with extensive risk management systems in place. For NGO partners\, there can be major consequences if donor government funding is accepted without a proper risk assessment being carried out. Accounting and compliance requirements for NGOs can be difficult to meet without appropriate training\, and there are often serious legal consequences if the terms of funding agreements are not met. \nThe topics that we have covered so far in the risk management series have primarily focused on internal decision making and the role of risk management. It is important to extend this thinking\, however\, to external funding relationships. NGOs should be confident that they are basing the decision to accept funding taking into consideration key questions such as: \n• Can we meet expectations of the funder?\n• What is the likelihood that we can fulfill compliance requirements?\n• Which risk controls are missing\, or should be strengthened\, to help meet expectations and compliance requirements? \nAs with our other webinars in the series\, we will be joined by a panel of experts representing both NGO and funder perspectives\, followed by a live discussion with participants. \nEvent time\nWednesday\, 28 April 2021 \nNew York: 9:00 – 10:30\nLondon: 14:00 – 15:30\nGeneva: 15:00 – 16:30\nAmman: 16:00 – 17:30\nNairobi: 16:00 – 17:30\nBangkok: 20:00 – 21:30\nManila: 21:00 – 22:30 \n
