Mr. Roderick Valones, has been in development and emergency response programming for 19 years. He specialized in livelihoods and food security in development programming and in cash transfer program and livelihoods recovery program in emergency response. He has been engaged by medium to large scale international organizations in development and the humanitarian sector. Mr. Valones has worked as an advisor and program manager in the Philippines and successfully involved in various programs along agriculture and food security, climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction, agriculture value chain, protected area and marine sanctuary management, renewable energy, community-based business enterprise development, cash transfer program and livelihoods recovery and asset protection programs in emergency response.
Mr. Valones is highly committed to quality and accountability as reflected in his role as the Sphere focal point in the Philippines. He is instrumental in the formation of the Alliance of Sphere Advocates in the Philippines (ASAP) with 18 member-organizations. ASAP is committed to practice and promote Sphere standards to assure rights to assistance and protection among the disaster or conflict-affected population.
As a facilitator, Mr. Valones is adapted to multicultural environment. He has co-facilitated and led six training orientations on Sphere standards in the Philippines involving humanitarian workers and local government units’ officers. Mr. Valones has completed his ToT in Sphere; completed the Minimum Economic Recovery Standards Training for Humanitarian Workers; Quality and Accountability Training; and had basic training on Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP).
Mr. Valones has a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business and a Masters of Science in Rural Development. He also completed a Masters in Development Studies with a specialization in Rural Livelihoods and Global Change from the Erasmus University Rotterdam, International Institute of Social Studies, where he was a Ford Foundation International Fellowship Program scholar.
