CAFOD, SCIAF, and Trócaire (CST) Ethiopia represent the Catholic development agencies of Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales in Ethiopia, working in partnership with local, secular, and church organizations. CST Ethiopia operates across several thematic areas, including resilience building, humanitarian response, protection and gender-based violence (GBV), peacebuilding, and women’s empowerment. Through a partnership model, CST provides capacity building, as well as technical and financial support to local non-governmental organizations.

Both Trócaire and CAFOD have been active in Ethiopia for over 40 years. Since 2009, they have collaborated under the CST Ethiopia banner, alongside Caritas sister agencies SCIAF, Trócaire, and CAFOD. CST’s operations span multiple regions within Ethiopia, including the Borena Zone of Oromia Region, South Omo Zone of SNNPR, Addis Ababa, Zone 2 of Afar Region, and the entire Tigray Region.

In 2023, CST/Trócaire conducted a comprehensive capacity assessment, which highlighted the need for targeted training. As a result, Sphere training was provided to staff members from both CST and its partner organizations who are directly involved in project design, implementation, technical support, and monitoring. Building on this foundation, CST plans to further strengthen capacities in 2024 by offering a Sphere Training of Trainers (ToT) course to its core staff and partner organization staff. This ToT will empower them to lead future capacity-building initiatives at the organizational level.

Goal and Aim:
The goal of the Sphere Training of Trainers (ToT) is to enhance humanitarian professionals’ knowledge, attitudes, and skills in training, promoting, and applying the Sphere Minimum Humanitarian Standards.

The two overarching aims of the ToT are:

*To reinforce participants’ understanding and application of the Sphere Handbook as a critical tool for ensuring quality and accountability in humanitarian work.
*To equip participants with essential facilitation skills and adult learning principles, enabling them to effectively design and conduct Sphere learning events.
