What is new in the 2018 Handbook? Discover Sphere’s guide and training module

Sphere Handbook users curious to know more about the content of the 2018 edition now have access to a wide range of in-depth information. Sphere’s “What is New” materials provide an insight into what has changed – and what has not – in the Handbook since the 2011 edition.

  • The What is New In-depth Guide is aimed at anyone looking to gain a thorough understanding of the differences between the 2011 and 2018 editions of the Sphere Handbook. It introduces the drivers of the revision, as well as the themes which emerged during the consultations. It also includes a chapter-by-chapter analysis, highlighting the shifts in standards, the Handbook as a whole, and implications for using the standards in context.
  • The What is New Training Module is designed to support trainers and lecturers in any presentation, seminar or workshop focusing on the 2018 Sphere Handbook. The module includes materials to help participants discover the new Handbook through a formal presentation and guided discussions, with an overview of the rationale behind each new element in the Handbook. During optional plenary discussions, participants are encouraged to reflect on how the new standards apply to their work and to share their experiences. Participants are assumed to have a reasonable knowledge of Sphere and the 2011 Sphere Handbook.

Both resources are now available for download from the Resources section of the Sphere website. For more information, please contact learning@spherestandards.org.
