The Sphere movement was started in 1997 by a group of humanitarian professionals aiming to improve the quality of humanitarian work during disaster response.

In early November 2018, Sphere released the fourth edition of The Sphere Handbook, one of the most widely referenced sets of humanitarian principles and standards. In early 2019, a new Sphere Training Package was released which includes five days’ worth of materials for in-person training workshops.

For the first time in several years, Sphere is fully engaged in co-creating a Sphere ToT, and we now invite you to apply to be a participant in this historic event.

There is no workshop participant fee. However, the course is non-residential, and you must make your own arrangements for travel, accommodation, evening meals, travel/health/accident insurance and visa. (Lunch, snacks, water and training materials will be provided at the training venue. An invitation letter will be provided to support your visa application if required.)

We expect this event to be oversubscribed, so a selection process is in place. Participants will be selected based on the following criteria:

  1. Understanding of the Sphere Handbook and knowledge of Sphere training materials;
  2. Experience in conducting humanitarian workshops, including Sphere workshops;
  3. Experience in implementing the Sphere Handbook in the field; and
  4. Knowledge of adult learning methods and proven training and facilitation skills.

Preference will be given to applicants who have already attended a Sphere workshop lasting three or more days based on the latest version of the Sphere Training Package.

Before you continue to the application form below, please send a letter of endorsement to learning@spherestandards.org from your line-manager or organisation director confirming their support for your participation in this ToT and your action plan for facilitating at least two Sphere workshops during the six months following the ToT.

This event is now closed to applications.
